Biometric registration: Election Commission server hangs
Dhaka: As only a day left for the biometric re-registration of mobile SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) cards, the mobile phone users rushed to nearest mobile phone service centres on Friday morning.
The server of Election Commission, which was providing national ID card information during registration, has been crashed as it failed to stand the last-minute rush for SIM re-registration.
The government declared 30 May as the deadline for biometric SIM registration.
However, the Telecom Division issued a notice for extending the time for SIM re-registration. But, the State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said the unregistered SIM cards will be deactivated on 1 May for a few hours.
The EC officials are also facing problems while cross-matching the finger prints of the subscribers.
The EC server was unavailable for half an hour from at about 11:00am. The EC officials said due to huge influx of subscriber the registration process is taking time.
