Chittagong: Customs intelligence officials arrested a man carrying with 16 gold bars weighing 10tolas each at Shah Amanat International Airport on Friday.

The arrestee is Jahangir Alam, a resident of Satkania in Chittagong.

Umme Nahida, assistant director of Customs intelligence and investigation directorate, said the customs officials challenged Jahangir Alam while crossing the green channel around 11:30am after he arrived in Chittagong by a flight of Air Arabia from RAK, Dubai.

After searching, the customs officials recovered 16 gold bars from his shoes.

The market value of the seized gold is Tk90 lakh.
