Lakshmipur: An Awami League activist was hacked to death by some miscreants in Sherpur area in Lakshmipur sadar upazila on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Golam Maula, son of Abdul Mannan, a resident of Sobahanpur village of Chatkhil upazila in Noakhali and a member of Sobhanpur ward Awami League.

Local people spotted Golam’s body tied up with a betel-nut tree in the area at about 10:00am and informed police.

On information, police from Dattapara police camp recovered the body and sent it to Lakshmipur sadar hospital.

Dattapara police camp sub-inspector Mohammad Jamal Hossain said miscreants might have hacked Golam to death over previous enmity early in the morning and tied up his body with a tree.
