Padma Bridge project victims demand fair compensations
Dhaka: The people who have lost their belongings due to land acquisition for the proposed Padma Bridge project have urged the government to provide them due compensations.
They made the call at a demonstration in front of the head office of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in the capital on Monday afternoon.
Some 100 victims jointed the demonstration claimed that around 200 families of Madabchar in Madaripur lost their homesteads and property since the government has already acquired land to implement the mega project but the victims are yet to be compensated.
Abdur Rashid Shikder, one of the victims, said although the Land Ministry earlier asked the deputy commissioner of Madaripur to take steps to compensate the real victims, no effective measure has been taken yet.
‘But, the deputy commissioner, UNO of Shibchar upzaila and land officer are threatening to put us on crossfire and file cases as we’ve raised voice against their corruption and demanded compensation,’ he said.
Earlier, they also formed a human chain in front of National Press Club to press home their demands.
