Show cause notices against 12 councillor aspirants
Dhaka: Election Commission has so far issued show-cause notices to 12 councillor aspirants of the Dhaka South City Corporation election for not removing their electioneering posters within the deadline that expired on Friday midnight.
‘We've issued show-cause notices to the councillor-aspirants for violating the election code of conduct as they didn’t remove their posters within the deadline,’ returning officer Mihir Sarwar Morshed told reporters at his Segunbagicha office on Monday.
However, no show-cause notice was issued to any possible candidates of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections for the code violation.
Returning officers of DNCC Shah Alam and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Abdul Baten told UNB that they have not issued any show-cause notice to any probable aspirant till date for violating the election code of conduct.
The deadline for removing all the electoral campaign materials, including billboards, banners, posters and graffiti expired on Friday midnight.
On 18 March, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the election schedules for the three city corporations fixing vote for 28 April.
According to the election schedule, the last date for the submission of nomination papers is 29 March, while the nomination papers will be scrutinised on 1 and 2 April; and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is 9 April.
