Dhaka: The government has asked the law enforcers to remain alert and be more active ahead of the 28 April elections to Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporations.

The instruction came from a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on law and order affairs held at the Home Ministry on Wednesday with its president Amir Hossain Amu, also the industries minister, in the chair.

Disclosing the decision, Amu told reporters that the police will be more vigilant over the capital’s city corporation elections.

Referring to an advance survey report on the situation during the upcoming elections to the city corporations, Amu said no such finding has been found about any unrest over the elections.

He said police have been asked to be extra vigilant so that no one can flex muscle over the elections.

About the ongoing programmes enforced by the BNP-Jamaat-led 20-party alliance, Amu said the police have been asked to take precautionary measures to avert any untoward incidents as the blockaders seem to have taken a breathing space.

The meeting was attended, among others, by committee members Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon and the Home Secretary, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director General of Rab and the DMP Commissioner.
