Two Bangladeshis killed in Maldives
Dhaka: A Bangladeshi national was killed in a cafe on 22 March in Male, the capital of the Maldives, while another Bangladeshi was found dead in the remote island of Toordhoo on 23 March.
Shahin Mia was stabbed to death in a cafe of Male, while the body of Bilal was found at Toordhoo, a foreign ministry press release said on Thursday.
The release said the Bangladesh High Commission in Male immediately took up the matter with the concerned authorities of the Maldives.
‘Bangladesh high commissioner in Male Rear Admiral Kazi Sarwar Hossain had a meeting with Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen regarding this who directed the Home Minister to step up security,’ the release added.
Kazi Sarwar is also in constant touch with the Home Minister and the Police Commissioner of the Maldives on the issue.
‘The high commissioner had a detailed discussion with the Bangladesh community on 25 March briefing them on the situation and requesting them to remain calm and be cautious,’ the release said.
Moreover, the Bangladesh High Commission is maintaining contact with the Bangladesh community in Maldives and the situation is also being monitored from the foreign ministry in Dhaka.
