Felani murder retrial deferred
Kurigram: A special court at Cooch Behar in India, set up for the retrial of the killing of Bangladeshi girl Felani, has deferred the retrial proceedings for three months till 30 June.
Lawyer in the murder case Abraham Linkon, also Kurigram public prosecutor, confirmed the news.
Linkon said the trial proceeding started at a 5-member bench, headed by BSF executive official CP Trivedi, on 25 March according to the schedule. But the court was adjourned that day as the special court assistant prosecutor was ill.
The procedure started again on 26 March, but the court adjourned the proceedings till 30 June as the assistant public prosecutor was not present.
Earlier on 22 November 2014, the court adjourned the trial proceedings for four months as the accused Amio Ghosh fell ill during the trial.
On 6 September 2013, a BSF special court acquitted Amio Ghosh in the Felani murder case.
Later, a BGB-BSF meeting decided to revise the trial.
According to the decision, BSF started the retrial on 22 September 2014. On 17 November 2014, Felani’s father Nur Islam testified in the trial accusing Amio Ghosh and demanded highest punishment.
Felani was shot dead by BSF personnel on 7 January 2011 while she was crossing the Anantapur border at Phulbari in Kurigram. As criticism aroused in home and abroad regarding the killing, the trial started on 13 August 2013 at a special court set up by the BSF.
