Body of rail minister’s brother found

Dhaka: Police recovered the body of rail minister’s brother from Dhanmondi Lake on Sunday morning.

Police said they found a body floating on the lake water and recovered it at about 11:00am.

The body was identified as ABM Abdul Latif, elder brother of the rail minister Mohammad Mujibul Haque, also a retired government officer, said the Dhanmondi police.

Dhanmondi zone assistant commissioner Rejaul Karim said Abdul Latif, who was at his seventies, left home at about 9:00pm on Saturday after telling family he was going for a walk near the lake, and was went missing.

His family members contacted with the Dhanmondi police on Sunday morning. Later, they identified the body of Abdul Latif which was recovered from the lake.

Rejaul Karim said the death of Abdul Latif might be a natural one.

Primarily it has been thought that he lost his consciousness or had a cardiac attack while walking beside the lake and slipped into the water.

The body has been taken to the deceased’s residence at road 5, Dhanmondi.

Abdul Latif’s family members said his body will be taken to Chauddagram for burial after holding the janaza.
