Madaripur teacher murder attempt ‘mastermind’ held: Police
Dhaka: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested the key planner of the killing attempt on a college teacher in Madaripur from Dhaka’s Demra area on Thursday night.
Tipped off, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Khaled Saifullah, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman.
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the arrest through a text message issued to the media.
Earlier, on 15 June, Ripon Chakrabarty, a mathematics lecturer of Madaripur Government Naziumuddin College, was stabbed and hacked by some assailants at his residence in Madaripur town.
Police said three people knocked the door of Ripon’s residence at College Road behind the college at about 4:00pm. As soon as the college teacher opened the door, the miscreants attacked him and started hacking him.
Police detained alleged Islami Chhatra Shibir activist Golam Faizullah Fahim, around 20 years old, in this connection on the day.
A Madaripur court placed Faizullah Fahim on a 10-day police custody for interrogation on 17 June.
On 18 June, Fahim was killed in a reported gunfight on police custody in the village of Miyarchar of Bahadurpur union of Sadar upazila.
