Dhaka: Bangladesh Chattra League Dhaka University unit on Friday demanded resignation of DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique by 8:00pm today.

Earlier, BCL DU unit president Abid Al Hasan concluded the DU VC’s residence besiege programme giving ultimatum till 17 July for taking strict measures against those involved in publication of the souvenir book marking the 95th founding anniversary of the university where Ziaur Rahman has been mentioned as the first president of Bangladesh.

Many leaders and activists left the place after the declaration. Later they joined again the protest programme.

Later, BCL leaders and activists went there and locked the main gate of the VC’s residence. They at that time demanded VC’s resignation by 8:00pm today.

Before the declaration, Dhaka University Acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman was suspended over the publication of the souvenir book marking the 95th founding anniversary of the university.

The decision was taken by the authorities on Friday afternoon.

Confirming the suspension, DU proctor Amzad Ali said Rezaur Rahman has been suspended from all activities. A committee will be formed soon to investigate the souvenir book publication issue.

Rezaur Rahman, also the publisher of the souvenir book, wrote an article in the souvenir while introducing Ziaur Rahman Hall. In the article, he mentioned Ziaur Rahman as the first president of Bangladesh.
