Dhaka: The Italian government has said nine of its citizens have been identified among the dead from Friday’s attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s upmarket Gulshan.

Additionally, a body in the CMH morgue that is yet to be identified may be an Italian said to be still missing by the country’s foreign ministry.

The names of the nine Italian victims are Adele Puglisi, Marco Tondat, Claudia Maria D’Antona, Nadia Benedetti, Vincenzo D’Allestro, Maria Rivoli, Cristian Rossi, Claudio Cappelli and Simona Monti.

Cristian Rossi was a 47-year-old man from town of Feletto Umberto in northern Italy. The man was father to three-year-old twins, according to Italy’s ANSA news agency.

Seven of the 20 killed in the Dhaka attack were Japanese nationals, Japanese chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters on Saturday. All seven were corporate employees having dinner with management consultant Tamaoki Watanabe, one of the survivors.

The names of the Japanese victims are Tanaka Hiroshi, Shakai Yuku, Kurusaki Nubuhiri, Okamura Makato, Shimudhuira Rui, Hashimato Hideiko and Koyo Ogasawara.

Japanese broadcaster NHK, citing an unnamed government official, said Watanabe works for Almec Corp. Almec is part of a Japanese development agency project to develop the Mass Rapid Transit or MRT in Dhaka.

Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said in a message from her Twitter account that she is ‘extremely pained to share that the terrorists have killed Tarushi, an Indian girl who was taken hostage in the terror attack in Dhaka.’

Swaraj said she had spoken with the father of the victim, 19-year-old Tarishi Jain, a student of the University of California, Berkeley, and ‘conveyed her deepest condolences.’

Sources in the Indian foreign ministry said Tarishi’s father has been running a garment business and living in Bangladesh for the last 15-20 years. Tarishi was a graduate of the American International School in Dhaka.

Emory University in the US state of Georgia said two of its students, Faraaz Hossain and Abinta Kabir, were among the 20 victims. University president James Wagner disclosed as much in emails to employees on Saturday.

Kabir was a student at the school’s campus in Oxford. She was said to be ‘visiting family and friends in Bangladesh when she was taken hostage and killed’. Hossain had completed his second year at Oxford and was headed to the business school in the fall.

School spokeswoman Elaine Justice said Kabir was from Miami, Florida (she held dual US-Bangladeshi citizenship), and Hossain was from Dhaka.

It was independently confirmed that Hossain was the grandson of Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman.

Completing the list we have Ishrat Akhond, a Bangladeshi. She was a career marketing executive and arts connoisseur who previously had held positions in Grameenphone and the Westin Hotel. She was acting as human resources director at ZXY International, a buying house.
