Dhaka: The cabinet has decided to impose 1% surcharge or extra fee on mobile phone uses.

The cabinet approved the draft of the Surcharge and Levy (Imposition and Collection) Bill 2015 in its weekly meeting at the secretariat.

The meeting held on Monday from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

Earlier, the cabinet was informed that imposition of 1% surcharge on the mobile phone talk-time would generate Tk 140 crore a year.

In the parliamentary session in June 2014, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came up with a proposal to enact surcharge on mobile-phone use and utilise the amount in education and health sectors.
