Dhaka: Rainfall to continue in Dhaka and many places of southern parts of the country today but it would decrease gradually by tomorrow, said a spokesman of the Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the low pressure still persists over west Bengal and adjoining Bihar area and its associated trough extends to Northwest Bay, said Met office spokesman adding squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

He said maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no. three.

Earlier, a Met office press release said, ‘Under the influence of heavy rain and new moon, low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirojpur, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by tidal surge of 2-3 feet height above normal astronomical tide.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to keep close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, it added.

About weather forecast, Met office release said light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The highest 148 mm rainfall was recorded at Teknaf yesterday while 29 mm in the capital till 12:00noon, the spokesman added.

Today’s sunset at Dhaka would be at 6:50pm and tomorrow’s sunrise at 5:17am.
