Dhaka: Leader of the opposition in Parliament and Jatiya Party leader Raushan Ershad on Thursday called for unity among all to counter the militant activities, saying she does not want repetition of an incident like Gulshan terrorist attack.

‘Though today is a day of joy, we are unable to celebrate it. We are very, very saddened today,’ she told reporters after visiting the spot of the terrorist attack in city’s diplomatic zone, reports UNB.

Raushan said Bangladesh is by and large a peaceful country and its people are peace-loving ones. ‘People never like such attack. Nobody can support such attack. We do not want to see any such incident in the future.’

The opposition leader said all the people must stand against those people who are involved in heinous activities. ‘We must find out their roots so that such incident does not repeat.’

She said Bangladesh’s people want to live maintaining religious harmony and the people of all religions are living together.

‘Let us work together and build a peaceful Bangladesh,’ said the opposition leader.

Asked whether there was any weakness or failure from intelligences, Raushan said detectives had no weaknesses as it happened suddenly.

‘No weaknesses and no failure from anybody.’

Earlier she along with senior JP leaders offered a Monajat at the entry-point of the restaurant seeking salvation of the departed souls.

Twenty-two people, including nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian national and two policemen were killed inside the café during the attack on Friday.

Later on Saturday morning, six attackers were also killed during a commando operation. Thirteen of the hostages were rescued alive in that operation.
