Police redressing ‘way of action’: DMP chief
Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mohammad Asaduzzaman Mia on Saturday said the ‘way of action’ of police has been redesigning following the terrorist attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.
The DMP chief came up with the information while talking to the reporters at his office in the morning.
‘The incident is new. This type of incident never happened in Bangladesh. As a result we have started to redesign the ‘mode of action’ or ‘way of action’ of police,’ he said.
Those who carried out the deadly attack at the restaurant in Gulshan were killed and nobody will be relieved if anyone tries to repeat this type of incident in the future, he added.
Asaduzzaman stressed building national unity in order to prevent militancy in the country.
He also sought help from people of all walks of life including teachers, religious scholars and journalists to uproot militancy.
Steps have already been taken to create awareness in schools, colleges and universities to face terrorism and militancy, he added.
Twenty-two people, including nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian national and two policemen were killed inside and outside of Holey Artisan Bakery, a Spanish restaurant, during the attack on 1 July.
Later on 2 July morning, six people with five attackers were also killed during a commando operation. Thirteen of the hostages were rescued alive in the operation.
