Bogra: A newly elected union council (UC) chairman in Gabtali upazila was injured as he was shot by miscreants in an attack at his village residence early on Saturday.

The injured—Tarajul Islam, chairman of Sonaray UC, and a resident of Atbaria village—was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Square Hospital in Dhaka as his condition deteriorated, reports UNB.

According to his family, an unknown person called Tarajul from outside the window of his room at about 3:00am.

As Tarajul woke up on his bed, the miscreant fired three bullets at him and fled the scene. Two bullets hit Tarajul—one in the head and the other in one of his hands.

The Gabtali Police Officer-in-charge Shahid Mahmud Khan said the reason behind the firing could not be known yet.
