Dhaka: BNP on Sunday alleged that the government has failed to take any visible and prompt step towards eliminating extremism as it is busy implementing its old plan to annihilate its political opponents.

‘People have so far not seen any example of prompt measure by the government to find out the root of extremism and eliminate it, let alone any coordinated and united effort. Instead, it’s continued its traditional game of blaming opposition,’ said BNP senior joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s central office in Dhaka, he also said, ‘The government is executing its old plan to eliminate BNP, not to stamp out militancy.’

The BNP leader said the government’s activities have demonstrated that it is deliberately trying to keep alive the evil-force militants to cling to power and establish a one-party rule, reports UNB.

The country seems to have turned to be a ‘breeding farm’ of terrorism as killing, bloodbath and violence are taking place all over the country, he observed.

Rizvi alleged that police killed Satkhira’s Shymnagar BNP leader Waliullah in crossfire after his arrest from a bus at Debhata Parulia on his way to Dhaka on Saturday. ‘We strongly protest and condemn the killing.’

Mentioning that the Prime Minister during exchanging Eid greetings at Ganabhaban said militant activities are not the path of Islam, he said, ‘We don’t have any disagreement with her comment. But, we would like to ask her which type of path it is to kill opposition activists in crossfire and arresting them in false cases.’

The BNP leader said the Prime Minister has no willpower to admit her failures and take any step in the interest of the country and welfare of its people.

Reaffirming BNP’s stance on a national unity to tackle militancy, Rizvi said, ‘We want to equivocally say the current national crisis can be resolved only by united efforts. The extremists will raise their heads by any means if the culture of annihilation, destruction, division and conflict continues in politics.’
