Dhaka: The Election Commission has cancelled the nomination papers of Dhaka North mayor candidate Abdul Awal Mintoo and Dhaka South mayor contestant Nasir Uddin Pintu for the city corporation elections scheduled to be held on 28 April.

The returning officer of the concerned city corporations declared the annulment of the nomination forms on Wednesday.

The nomination forms of Dhaka North mayor candidates Annisul Huq, Zonayed Saki, Tabith Awal, Bobby Hajjaj, Abdullah Kafi, Mahi B Chowdhury and Bahauddin Ahmed Bablu were accepted by the commission.

Among Twenty-one mayor candidates for Dhaka North City Corporation, nomination form of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson’s advisor Abdul Awal Mintoo has been cancelled.

Returning officer said Mintoo’s nomination form has been cancelled as the identifier of his form is not a voter of North City Corporation.

The South City Corporation has named 23 valid candidates including Sayeed Khokon, Abdus Salam, Mirza Abbas, and, Assaduzzaman Ripon for the forthcoming city election.

The deadline for taking and submitting nomination forms was on 29 March.
