Those provoking militancy to face action: DMP chief
Dhaka: Strong legal actions will be taken against those instigating militants, says Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia.
‘Those provoking militant activities by giving ill-motivated statements will not be spared,’ he told a press briefing at the DMP media centre over the security arrangement in Dhaka after the recent attacks in city’s Gulshan and in Kishoreganj, reports UNB.
Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury recently made a statement criticising the role of slain Banani police officer-in-charge Salauddin Ahmed Khan during the terrorist attack at a café at Gulshan.
Asked about the remarks, the DMP chief said the statements of Zafrullah over Salauddin were indecent and offensive. ‘These types of statements have shocked us,’ he said.
He said the perpetrators of the Gulshan attack could not flee the scene due to the strong resistance from police personnel during the incident.
Replying to a query, he said all the terrorists who carried out the attack are Bangladeshis. However, police are investigating whether there was any international link to the terror attack.
Asaduzzaman said security arrangements in and around the city have been beefed up following the recent terror attacks.
The DMP Commissioner also urged people to cooperate with the law enforcers to uproot militancy from the country.
