House owner held for ‘renting out flat to Gulshan attackers’
Dhaka: Police on Sunday arrested a house owner at Shewarapara area in Dhaka for allegedly renting out his flat to Gulshan attackers and not keeping the information of tenants.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman said a team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Unit (CTTU) arrested house owner Nurul Islam on the charges.
They also seized a hand grenade, black dresses used by the terrorists and some other materials from the house, reports UNB.
This arrest came a day after police arrested three people, including North South University acting Pro-Vice- chancellor Gias Uddin Ahsan, from different parts of the capital for not keeping information of the tenants who were involved in the Gulshan terror attack.
The other arrestees are Alam Chowdury, nephew of Gias Uddin Ahsan, and manager of the building Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin.
On 29 February, the DMP asked the home-owners of the city to submit personal information on tenants along with other information to the local police by 15 March.
On 1 July, gunmen stormed a Gulshan cafe and took its guests and employees hostage. Twenty bodies, including nine of Italians and seven Japanese nationals, were recovered from the crime spot the following day.
The crisis ended following an army-led joint forces' operation - 'Operation Thunderbolt'. Two policemen and six militants, of whom one later appeared to be a worker of the Bakery who may or may not be involved in the attack, were also killed.
