Buriganga trawler capsize death toll now 11
Keraniganj: The death toll from Thursday’s trawler capsize in the Buriganga River at Aliganj Ghat in South Keraniganj rose to 11 with the recovery of another body from the river on Friday.
The body of Alamgir Hossain, son of Kurban Ali of Lalbagh area of the capital, was recovered from the river in the evening.
Earlier, the body of Jamila Khatun, wife of late Abdur Rashid of Lalbagh in the capital, was recovered from the river at about 10:00am on Friday while that of Rasel, son of Rajkumar of Shahinnagar, in the afternoon, said Narayanganj Fire Service deputy assistant director Mamtaj Uddin.
Meanwhile, three passengers remained still missing in the incident, claimed their relatives.
Earlier, divers recovered the bodies of eight passengers of the trawler from the river on Thursday.
The trawler coming from Beltali of Chandpur sank in the river after being hit by a sand-laden trawler at about 11:45 am on Thursday.
Most of the passengers managed to swim ashore or were rescued while several others went missing.
Meanwhile, police seized the bulkhead ‘Sathibul Bahar-2’ responsible for the accident from Baktabalighat in Narayanganj on Thursday night, said South Keraniganj Police officer-in-charge Jamal Uddin Mir.
On the other hand, a case was filed in connection with the trawler capsize. Sub-inspector Sohrab Hossain of the police station filed the case on Thursday night.
