ACC arrests Kushtia LGED official on graft charge
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday arrested an official of the Local Government and Engineering Division (LGED) for his alleged involvement in embezzlement of Tk 17.52 lakh.
The arrestee is identified as Sheikh Shafayet Hossain, an accountant of the LGED’s Kushtia office. He has been on a Post Retirement Leave (PRL) over the last three months, reports UNB.
An ACC team along with police, led by ACC assistant director Rabindranath Das, conducted a drive at the house of Sheikh Shafayet Hossain in 117/1 Ram Chandra Ray Chowdhury Courtpara of the district town and arrested him at about 10:30am.
Later, police produced him before the court of Special Judge Shamsul Arefin who ordered for sending him to jail.
Rabindranath Das said Nur Mohammad (then executive engineer of Kushtia ACC) filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station against Sheikh Shafayet Hossain in connection with the graft allegation on October 20, 1998.
