Sylhet: A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) was detained on the campus on Monday over his suspected link with militant Islamist organisations.

The suspect, Abdul Aziz, is a fourth year industrial and production engineering (IPE) department student.

He is the son of Abdul Bashir from Parwa namapara of Companiganj in Sylhet.

SUST acting proctor Rashed Talukder said police held Aziz on Monday afternoon.

He also said, ‘According to police, Aziz was held on information given by the higher authorities. Details will be available later.’

When connected, Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Kamrul Ahsan said a team of Police’s Counterterrorism Unit held Aziz for is suspected link with militants.
