Blogger Washiqur murder: 5 ‘ABT men’ indicted
A Dhaka court on Wednesday framed charges against five suspected members of banned Islamist organisation ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’ in the blogger Washiqur Rahman Babu killing case.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court 3 Judge SM Ziaur Rahman framed the charges and fixed August 4 for starting the trial, reports UNB.
The accused are — M Jikullah alias Hasan, Ariful Islam alias Mushfiq, M Saiful Islam, M Akram Hossian Habib alias Abdullah and Junayed alias Taher.
Of the accused, Taher and Abdullah are on the run since the killing on March 30.
On September 1, 2015, Inspector of Detective Branch Shah Mohammad Mashiur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against the five people in the murder case.
Blogger Washiqur Rahman Babu, 26, who was also an employee of Far East Travels Ltd, was stabbed by a group of assailants, near South Begunbari Jame Mosque under Tejgaon Industrial police station on March 30, 2015.
Police rescued injured Washiqur and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.
Police arrested two of the suspected killers — Zikullah, 20, a student of Hathazari Madrasah in Chittagong, and Ariful Islam, 20, a student of Mirpur Section 1 Darul Ulum Madrasah — from the area.
