Dhaka: High Court on Thursday handed over seven years of imprisonment to BNP Senior Vice-chairman Tarique Rahman and fined him Tk 20crore in a money laundering case.

A HC bench comprising Justice Enayetur Rahim, and Justice Amir Hossain announced the verdict at about 10:50am.

Earlier, Justice Enayetur Rahim started to read out the verdict on the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) appeal against a lower court verdict which acquitted the BNP vice-chairman from the case.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the HC bench fixed the date for the delivery of the judgment.

Earlier on 16 June, the bench kept pending its verdicts to be delivered any day after concluding hearing of the appeals.

On 3 January, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan prayed to an HC bench to fix a date for hearing its appeal challenging the acquittal of Tarique, elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in the case.
