Dhaka: The Election Commission on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Sayeed Khokon and Jatiya Party-backed Saifuddin Ahmed on charges of violation of electoral code of conduct.

Returning Officer (RO) of Dhaka South City Corporation election Mihir Sarwar Morshed told reporters at his office on Saturday that the two mayoral candidates were asked to explain by 3:00pm Sunday why action would not be taken against them.

In the show-cause notice the commission said Sayeed Khokan carried out election campaign and sought votes from people after the Jummah prayers on Friday, which is a violation of electoral code of conduct.  It came to the notice of the commission through electronic and print media reports.

In another notice to Saifuddin Ahmed it said returning officers found posters of Milon in various places which is also violation of electoral code of conduct.

Besides, a total of eight councilor candidates have been served with show-cause notices on various allegations.
