3-day DC conference begins Tuesday
Dhaka: The three-day annual conference of the deputy commissioners of districts begins in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference at Shapla Hall of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) at about 10:00am, said Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan at a press conference at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.
The Prime Minister is expected to give directives to the DCs about the implementation of various government decisions, policies and programmes.
President Abdul Hamid will also give directives to the DCs at Bangabhaban on Wednesday.
Besides, the DCs will exchange views with ministers, advisers, state ministers, and high officials, including secretaries of 39 ministries, in 18 working sessions out of total 22 sessions during the conference.
Talking to reporters at the secretariat the cabinet secretary said land management, improvement of law and order situation, strengthening local government institutions, disaster management, relief and rehabilitation activities, use of ICT and e-governance and improvement of the quality of education, healthcare, family welfare and other development activities are expected to be discussed at the meetings.
The DCs will be given directives for the reinforcement of the two committees—core committee and anti-terrorism and sabotage committee—which were formed after Gulshan and Sholakia militant attacks, from union to district levels.
The working sessions of the conference will be held at the Bangladesh Secretariat, he said.
Meanwhile, divisional commissioners and DCs are expected to present 336 suggestions and recommendations on 39 ministries to be discussed at the conference.
The cabinet secretary also said 93.5 per cent of the recommendations made during the last conference were implemented by the government.
