Man gets 7yrs in prison for sending derogatory SMS to judge
Dhaka: A cyber-crime tribunal in Dhaka on Sunday sentenced a man to seven years’ imprisonment for sending disparaging message to a female judge of Rangpur over her mobile phone, reports UNB.
Judge KM Shamsul Alam of the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka issued the order with convict Rezwanul Haque Ripon, of Paschimpara in Rangpur, standing in the dock.
The court also fined him Tk10,000, in default, so suffer six months more in prison.
According to the prosecution, Ripon filed two cases against four people, including one Mashiur Rahman, in Rangpur.
He sent derogatory SMSs to judge Kamrunnahar Kakoli on 10 May and 12 May last year.
Later, the judge filed a case with Rangpur Kotwali Police Station under the ICT Act on 12 May.
The Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka framed charges against Ripon on 26 October last year.
