Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia is likely to hold a meeting with the party’s top leaders on Sunday evening.

The leader returned home at Gulshan 2 in Dhaka after securing bail in two corruption cases in the morning.

Khaleda Zia was self-confined in her political office in Gulshan for ninety-two days before she appeared in front of the court.

Sources inside BNP said the party chief is likely to discuss strategies to be taken over the forthcoming city corporation elections.

The source, however, was not sure about the time or venue of the meeting.

They also said Khaleda would like to talk about the tactics of the movement as the BNP central office, which was padlocked for over three months, was reopened on Saturday night.

BNP office still at mess

A group of BNP activists entered the office after breaking the lock at the collapsible gate after law enforcers were withdrawn from the office premises.

BNP central office was locked since January 3, two days before the first anniversary of 5 January elections that BNP has been claiming as an undemocratic election.

Party officials said they could not launch a full-fledged operation at this time as the office is out of electricity, telephone connectivity and water supply.

Silence prevails in Gulshan office

Silence is prevailing at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office that was in the centre of all attention over the last three months.

From the early morning, office employees and Chairperson’s Security Force (CSF) officials started transferring household materials from the office to Khaleda’s house, Firoza.

The stuffs, mostly used by the party chief were shifted to Firoza as she will stay at her residence from now on, one of the CSF personnel said.

The office, which earlier had attention of all, became silent after the BNP chief left the office at about 9:45am on Sunday morning and headed towards a special court set up in Bakshibazar in Dhaka to attend the hearing of two cases filed by Anti-Corruption Commission on charge of misappropriation of funds.

During a visit at about 11:00pm and 12:45pm, only a few vehicles, mostly from the media houses were parked outside the office. Journalists from six to seven electronic media houses were seen waiting by the building.

Spectators said that a number of people come out from the office after Begum Zia’s motorcade left the area, however, they were not familiar.

No police were on duty, but detectives were seen standing outside the office.
