Families identify 3 of the 9 ‘militants’

Dhaka: Family members on Wednesday identified three of the nine suspected militants who were killed in an operation by a special team of police in a building in the city’s Kalyanpur area on Tuesday.

One of them is Jubayer Hossain, 20, son of Abdul Kaiyum and Ayera Begum and resident of West Maizdi in Sudharam upazila of Noakhali, said Ilias Sharif, superintendent of police of the district.

Jubayer was a second-year honours student of Noakhali Government College.

The Superintendent of police said Jubayer who had remained traceless since May was one of the five people from Noakhali on the missing list prepared by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Police on special suspicion about Jubayer’s militant link sent information about him to the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, the police supper added.

On Wednesday morning, Jubayer’s father identified his son from the pictures of the killed militants posted by the DMP in its Face Book page after the Kalyanpur ‘Storm 26’ operation.

However, Jubayer’s parents will be taken to Dhaka for further identification, said SP Sharif.

Another deceased was identified as Sabbirul Hoque alias Sabbir, son of Azizul Hoque and resident of Burangchhara Fulgazi in Anwara upazila of Chittagong.

He used live along with his family at Bakalia in Chittagong.

Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said Sabbir had remained missing for the last six months.

Sabbir’s parents after seeing his photograph in DMP’s Face Book page contacted the Chittagong police super’s office and confirmed it to be their son’s, Masudur added.

Sabbir was a fourth-year student of Chittagong International Islamic University, he added.
Another ‘militant’ is Shehjad Rauf alias Arko, aged around24 years, son of Towhid Rauf of Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka.

Shehjad Rauf alias Arko was a student of North South University.

As Arko’s parents found their son’s photo among those killed in Kalayanpur police operation on the DMP’s Facebook page, they contacted the DMP office and confirmed it to be their son, said a senior official at the DMP.

Arko remained missing for the last six months, the official added.

DC Masudur Rahman said the parents of the three youths will be taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for further identification.

Later, the DNA tests of the three deceased will be conducted with court permission, the DC added.
