3 more held over killing of 10-year factory worker in Narayanganj
Narayanganj: Police on Thursday caught three more boys at Jatramura area in Rupganj of Narayanganj on Thursday in connection with a case of killing a 10-year-old worker of Zobeda Textile Mills Limited by pumping air into his body through his rectum.
The arrested are Rakib, 12, Shohel, 13, and Akash, 12. They are residents of the area, said Narayanganj superintendent of police Khandaker Mahid Uddin.
Earlier police arrested administrative officer Nazmul Huda, in his forties, on Monday morning and production manager Azhar Imam Sohel, 38, in the mill building on Monday night and lineman Ridoy Mia, 35, at Jatramura are in Rupganj on Tuesday morning.
Nazmul Huda on Monday evening was presented before court and he was sent to police custody for seven days to be questioned.
Brutality Hunts Sagar
On 24 July, Sagar Barman, son of Ratan Barman of Rajibpur village of Khaliajuri upazila of Netrakona district, died of internal injury in Dhaka Medical College Hospital after he was taken in the hospital with serious wounds from the air pressure in his body.
Earlier on the day, factory’s officials punished him by pumping air inside his body through his rectum using an air inflator of an air compressor.
They were living in a rented house at Dighibarab area in Tarab municipality in Narayanganj. Ratan and Sagar worked at the tread section of the mill.
Ratan Barman, father of the victim, filed a case with the Rupganj Police on Sunday night in this connection. He named administrative officer Nazmul Huda, production manager Harun or Rashid, senior production manager Azhar Imam Sohel, assistant production manager Rashidul Islam and several other employees.
Case with the labour court
The inspector of Narayanganj Department of Inspection for Factories and Inspections, Samiul Alam Kurshi, visited the spot on Tuesday afternoon and filed another case against Zobeda Textile Mills chairman Azharul Islam Bhuiyan and managing director Mir Abdul Alim with the labour court over the incident.
They were charged with violating labour law, flouting rules of giving identity cards and appointment letter and several other offences.
Earlier, two other cases were filed with labour law against the factory for forcefully hiring child labour. The cases, number 388 and 389, are still under prosecution.
Police on Monday recovered 24 children from the factory that is reportedly employed more than 400 child workers aged between eight to 15 years.
