No instruction given to evict bachelor tenants: DMP
Dhaka: Dhaka house owners were given no formal instruction to evict their bachelor tenants, Dhaka Metropolitan Police said on Saturday as rumours of such an official order was spreading fast in the city.
‘No instruction to evict the bachelor tenants was issued,’ said DMP deputy commissioner (media and publication), Masudur Rahman at a press briefing.
After the Dhaka raid on last Tuesday at a Kalyanpur residence, where nine militants died in a joint forces operation, DMP issued order asking Dhaka house owners to submit detail information of their tenants to the police.
It was also said that steps will be taken for noncompliance of the instruction.
But, after the incident reports have started to come from different parts of the capital city that many bachelor tenants are being asked to leave by the house owners, who apparently took the police instruction otherwise thinking that having bachelor tenants might create trouble for them.
Police, however, said the house owners were only asked to keep detail information about their tenants, irrespective of their marital status.
‘It does not matter who is married or who is not. It’s all about keeping a full record of the tenants,’ Masudur Rahman said.
He also said police have nothing to say about to whom the house owners will rent out their houses.
‘Whether the house owners will give their apartments on rent or not is absolutely up to them,’ he went on, ‘We just want to ensure everyone’s safety.’
Nine suspected militants were killed during police operation on the 4th floor of a 6-storey building ‘Taj Manjil’ in the city’s Kalyanpur area on 26 July.
