Sherpur: A court in Sherpur on Monday sentenced a man and his three sons to death for killing schoolboy Billal in Jhenigathi upazila in 2006.

The convicts are M Abu Jafar alias Suruj, and his three sons—M Al Amin, Moniruzzaman alias Hannan alias Menda and Dudu Miah—of Konagaon area of the upazila.

According to the prosecution, the convicts called Billal, son of Nur Islam, out of his house on the night of May 3, 2006 and later killed him.

Police recovered the body of the schoolboy from a latrine of a neighbour’s house five days after he went missing.

Victim’s father filed a killing case against 10 people in this regard.

On August 31, 2006, police submitted a charge-sheet against 10 accused to a court. But one of the accused died during the trial proceedings.

After examining 19 witnesses and documents, Judge of Additional District and Session’s Judge Court Mohammad Mosleh Uddin handed down the verdict acquitting four others.
