Jessore: A former Awami League leader was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants in Khalda road area of Jessore on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Monjur Hossain, a resident of Hamidpur village in sadar upazila and a former leader of Hamidpur union unit Awami League.

Three unidentified men riding a motorcycle intercepted Monjur on his way home from the town and shot him, leaving him critically injured, said Kotowali Police officer-in-charge Shikdar Akkas Ali.

He died on his way to Jessore 250-Bed hospital, he said.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue.
