Dhaka: Former secretary Kazi Reazul Haque has been appointed as chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for three years.

Law Ministry’s Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday, M Israil Hossain, additional secretary of the division, told UNB.

Soon after his appointment, Reazul Haque joined the office and took over charges, he added.

Reazul Haque served as a full-time member of the NHRC from 22 June

2010 to 22 June 2016.

He replaced Mizanur Rahman who worked as the NHRC chairman for two consecutive terms since 22 June 2010.

The tenure of Mizanur Rahman, a law professor of Dhaka University, expired on 22 June this year.
