15 undergraduate students held near B’baria border
Dhaka: Border Guard Bangladesh detained 13 private university and two college students at Kashinagar area of Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria near India-Bangladesh frontier on Thursday for their suspicious movement.
Of the detainees, nine are students of South East University and one each is of American International University, Prime Asia University, Northern University, Uttara University, Shyamoly Polytechnic Institute and Brahmanbaria Government College.
Sources at the BGB Headquarters said members of BGB Battalion-12 challenged the 15 young men for their suspicious movement at Kashinagar, one kilometre south of Singarbil border outpost.
Later, they were detained and handed over to the Bijoynagar police.
Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police Shahriar Al Mamun said the students claimed that they had gone to Sultanpur of Bijoynagar to attend a wedding ceremony.
‘They were held for suspicious movement’, he said, adding that they would be produced before a district court on Friday after showing them arrested under Section 54 [arrest without warrant]of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc).
