Comilla: A leader of Comilla University (CU) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) confessed to the killing of Khaled Saifullah, another BCL leader of the same unit, before a local court on Saturday.

Biplab Chandra Das, son of Babul Chandra Das and former vice-president of Shahid Dhirendronath Dutta Hall unit of BCL, was arrested in connection with the killing of Khaled Saifullah in an intra-party clash on the campus

Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahad Bin Amin Chowdhury recorded his statement in the afternoon, reported UNB.

Sub-inspector Detective Branch (DB) of police Shah Kamal Akanda, also the investigation officer of the case, said Biplab confessed to the court that he opened fire at Khaled Saifullah.

SI Shah Kamal Akanda said a DB team arrested Biplab from Rampura area of the capital early Friday and produced him before the court on Saturday afternoon.

Khaled Saifullah, a student of the Marketing Department and organising secretary of the Kabi Nazrul Hall unit of BCL, was killed and five others were injured in the clash on the campus on August 1.

The clash ensued between the followers of university unit BCL president Alif and another BCL leader Ilias Sabuj centring lighting candles in front of the portrait of Banghabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the campus marking the Month of Mourning.

A case was filed against 150 people for their alleged involvement in the killing.
