Dhaka: Independent mayoral candidate Mansurool Islam Danu will be the next mayor of Nilaphamari’s Domar municipality as he bagged a total of 3,347 votes on Sunday’s polls.

The unofficial result said Mansurool, also Domar upazila BNP president, had a very narrow win against his closest rival another independent Abu Sufian Lebu, who gave him a very good fight bagging 3,328 votes.

Ruling Awami League, however, was thrust to the third position as the mayoral candidate it nominated got 2,273 votes.

Voting started in Domar municipality at 8:00am Sunday and ended on 4:00pm without reports of any unwanted incidents, said officials.
