Chittagong: A speedy trial tribunal in Chittagong on Tuesday sentenced six people to death and acquitted four others in the case for killing Waliullah Mridha in Chandpur in 2014.

Chittagong Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Mohammad Mahitul Haq Enam Chowdhury found the six accused—Harun Mridha, Abdul Kader Mridha, Abdul Hamid, Mehedi Hasan, Nazmul Hasan and Gourob—guilty of murdering Waliullah, reports UNB.

The six were awarded the capital punishment after being tried in absentia.

The judge acquitted four others as charges against them could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, the convicts killed Waliullah Mridha at Shangkorpur village in Kachua upazila of Chandpur over a land-related dispute on 30 July, 2014.

Joynab Begum, wife of the deceased, filed a case against 10 people the following day.

Police submitted charge sheet against the 10 accused on 31 March, 2015.

On 6 January, 2016, the court framed charges in the case.
