Dhaka: Already stuck in the deadlock for damage to the landing stations, ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route was yet to return to normal as of Wednesday morning, due to inclement weather as well, triggered by the turbulent Padma River.

Besides, ferry service on Shimulia-Kawrakandi route was partially disrupted due to the inclement weather in the morning, causing immense suffering to the commuters.

Meanwhile, the BIWTA authorities have suspended plying of any types of river vehicles, excluding ferries, on the two routes due to the inclement weather condition, said officials.

However, small vehicles, including private cars, ambulances and motorcycles, are being ferried using utility ferries while no heavy vehicles, including buses and goods-laden trucks, could be ferried due to the bad weather condition on the two routes.

As a result, more than 400 buses and trucks are in wait on the two sides of the Shimulia-Kawrakandi route, said Shah M Khaled, assistant general manager of BIWTC.

The ferry service on the Daulatdia-Paturia route mainly remained suspended for the last four days due to damage of no 2 and no 4 landing stations at Daulatdia ferry terminal.

The repair works on the two landing stations were going on, said, Nizam Uddin Pathan, executive engineer of BIWTA, Aricha.

BIWTA Assistant Director (Traffic) Faridul Islam said three ferries were carrying light vehicles only from no 1 landing station, leaving more than 500 buses and tracks stuck on both sides of the route.
