Paturia-Daulatdia, Aricha-Kazirhat ferry services resume
Dhaka: The ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes resumed on Thursday morning after 36 hours of disruption due to inclement weather.
Faridul Islam, assistant in-charge (Transport and traffic) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), said the ferry services had been kept suspended on the routes from 7:30pm on Tuesday due to inclement weather.
Ferry services on the two routes resumed at about 7:30am on Thursday after a halt of over 36 hours, reports UNB.
Besides, ferry service on the Shimulia-Kawrakandi route was running at a small scale due to the inclement weather in the morning, causing immense suffering to the passengers.
Mohiuddin, port officer, Shimulia terminal, said plying of water vessels resumed on the route after a halt from early Wednesday to Thursday morning.
Nine ferries, including four ro-ro ferries, were in operation.
Over 400 buses and trucks were in wait for being ferried on the route.
The ferry service on the Daulatdia-Paturia route that was suspended due to damage of no 2 and no 4 landing stations at Daulatdia ferry terminal was yet to be restored.
The repair works on the two landing stations were going on, said, Nizam Uddin Pathan, executive engineer of BIWTA, Aricha.
