Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday issued warrants for the arrest of 56 people, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, in separate violence cases filed with Motijheel and Khilgaon Police Stations.

Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the Metropolitan Session Judge court passed the order taking cognisance of the chargesheet in an explosive case with Motijheel Police Station.

The court also asked the law enforcers to submit a report over the arrest warrant on September 18.

Rizvi’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah filed a time petition with the court as he could not attend at the court due to sickness. But the court rejected the petition.

K M Azizul Haque, sub-inspector of Motijheel Police Station, filed the case against 92 people under the Explosives Act for bomb explosions and obstructing police from performing their duty during a countrywide hartal on November 5, 2013.

Later on March 10, 2016, sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman of Motijheel Police Station submitted a supplementary charge sheet against 92 people, including BNP standing committee member MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Hannan Shah and Rizvi.

Meanwhile, the court also issued another arrest warrant against Rizvi in a case filed with Khilgaon Police Station.
