Dhaka: Another suspected mastermind behind the terror attack at a cafe in Dhaka’s Gulshan was identified and his organisational name is Marzan, said Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Chief Monirul Islam.

The CTTC unit chief, during a press conference in Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s media centre on Friday afternoon said Marjan was an aide to other suspects of the case — Hasnat Karim, Major Zia, and Tahmid.

The DMP’s Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam said on 1 July, Dhaka attackers entered into the Holey Artisan Hotel from different ways, but they were staying at the same apartment in Bashundhara.

Hasnat Karim and Tahmid, joined the attackers later to aid the attackers, said the DMP additional commissioner.

Marjan, who is a Bangladeshi, was in-charge of the Dhaka attack. He continued communication with the attackers and other two masterminds, Tamim and Major Zia, added Monirul Islam.

He said police after probing the statements given by several witnesses and accused of Dhaka attack identified Marjan as the in-charge of the attack.

Monirul Islam said CTTC unit also sought assistance from international intelligence organisations to detain Marjan. The organisations provided some pictures of Marjan, which will be published on media soon.

Talking about Marjan’s whereabouts the DMP additional commissioner said primarily it has been known that Marjan is in Dhaka. The law enforcers are conducting drives to hold Marjan.

He said Marjan also had the password of the e-mail ID in which the attackers sent the photographs of bodies. Marjan took the photos using the password and spread those to social networking sites.

Police also found that two Bangladeshi newspapers who published flawless copies of those photographs. On 11 August, a court also issued directives to the editors of the newspapers to help the investigation organisations in this connection.

The CTTC official also said two photographs will be sent to forensic lab as per the court’s order. If the lab test proved that the photographs were sent by Marjan then the court will filed case under ICT act against the newspapers.

Monirul Islam further said the other two suspected masterminds Tamim Chowdhury and sacked army Major Syed Mohamad Ziaul Haque are staying in Dhaka.

He said the process of arresting them is underway.
