7 sustain burn injuries in Chittagong building fire
Chittagong: Seven people sustained burn injuries as a fire broke out on the ground floor of a six-storey building at Kalurghat in Chittagong city early Saturday.
The injured were Rasheda Begum, 35, Bazlur Rahman, 40, Rayhan, 10, Shahera, 5, Mazid, Salma Begum, 22, and Mehedi, 20.
Duty officer of the Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defense control room Rupon Kanti Biswas said the fire erupted at about 1:00am when a bottle of spirit, used to burnish wooden furniture, came in contact with fire and soon engulfed the floor, leaving seven residents of the floor injured.
Five firefighting units rushed to the spot and put out the flame at about 2:00am.
The injured were taken to the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
