Lakshmipur: A local Juba League leader was hacked and shot to death by miscreants at Balaishpur in Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur on Saturday night.

The deceased is Foysal Ahmed, a resident of the area, and president of the 3 no Balaishpur ward unit of the ruling Awami League in Bashikpur union of the upazila, reports UNB.

The Chandraganj Police said a gang of miscreants swopped on Foysal in front of a mosque near his house at about 11:00pm while he was returning home.

The gang hacked him and then opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.

Local people spotted his body lying and called police.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy, said AKM Azizur Rahman Miah, the Chandraganj Police officer-in-charge.
