Jamalpur: The suspected ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Kualakandi in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur on Monday night.

The deceased is Shamim Fakir, of Teghoria in the upazila, reports UNB.

Tipped off that Shamim, accused in around 14 cases, was staying in Kualakandi area along with his associates, a police team launched a drive there to arrest him, said assistant police super Yunus Ali Miah.

However, the gangsters opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

Shamim was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, he said, adding that three policemen were also injured in the incident.
