Savar: Bangladesh government is deeply concerned about the security issues of the Bangladeshis staying at some cities of the United States following the murder of a Bangladeshi imam and his associate in New York, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader.

Obaidul Kader on Tuesday expressed his concern while talking to the journalist after visiting the operation of Bangladesh Road and Transport (BRTC)’s mobile court on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway at Nabinagar in Ashulia.

Earlier, on 13 August, an imam, identified as Maulana Alauddin Akonjee, 55, moved to New York from Bangladesh two years ago, and his assistant, 64-year-old Thara Uddin, were shot in the Ozone Park neighbourhood.

The working class area, on the border between Queens and Brooklyn, is home to many Muslim families from Bangladesh.

US ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Stephans Bloom Barnicat strongly condemned the killing of Bangladeshi imam and his on 14 August.
