Dhaka: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia along with members of her party’s new executive, standing committees and advisory council will pay tributes to her late husband and party founder Ziaur Rahman on Monday by placing wreaths at his grave.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir informed this to reporters after placing wreaths at Zia’s grave together with leaders and activist of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, marking its 36th founding anniversary.

Besides, he said, the first meeting of the BNP standing committee on Thursday night approved some proposals for amending the party’s constitution, reports UNB.

Fakhrul said the meeting elaborately discussed the country’s latest political situation and observed that there is no democracy and public security now in the country.

It also voiced concern that the state is not only ‘suppressing alternative views but also repressing’ the common people, he added.

On 6 August, BNP announced its 502-member central executive committee and 19-member standing committee and 73-member chairperson’s advisory council, nearly four and a half months after its national council held on 19 March.
