Young man disappears after jumping into Meghna River

Barisal: A young man went missing in the Meghna River in Kaliganj Majherchar area of Hijla upazila in Barisal on early Sunday after jumping from a ferry, reports UNB.
The missing is Hiron Shikder, son of fish trader Shah Alam Shikder, a resident of Bazar Road area of the district town.
Showing CCTV footage, Mukhlesur Rahman, supervisor of ‘MV Parabat-12’ ferry, said Hiron along with three Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders, including Sirajul Islam Nayon, 29, president of the no. 5 ward unit of the city BCL, and Sheikh Sujon, president of the no. 6 ward unit, took no. 209 cabin of the ferry on Saturday night.
The video footage showed that Hiron talked in a raised voice with Nayon who tried to make him understand something outside the cabin at about 1:00am.
Later Nayon also brought two other people outside from the cabin.
At one stage, Hiron ran towards the 2nd floor of the ferry, jumped from there and went deep down into the river.
Md Shafik, sub-inspector and in-charge of Barisal river police outpost, said police detained three of them for interrogation.
The detainees were later handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station, added the SI.
